Down time isn't wasted time...

My wife and I just got back from an incredibly relaxing vacation to the Dominican Republic.  It was the first vacation where we weren't on the go the entire time.  Those other vacations to incredible places such as - Barcelona, Italy and France - were amazing; but I did feel this (internal) pressure to capture the perfect images, the best angles, the raddest silhouettes, even if that meant annoying the crap out of my wife.  This trip was entirely different, I held my wife's hand/a book/an adult beverage, more than I held a camera.  When I did take photos it was with my new GoPro Hero3S and I had no way of knowing how the image would turn out.  Not worrying about being creative or capturing anything other than mental images was sooo rewarding.  I needed this time away with my wife to learn to be quiet again.

I'm going to start scheduling time where I'm off the grid, quiet and still.  This will be so good for not only my creativity but also and much more importantly - my marriage.  I love you Andrea!

Paris - $40 later...

Well apparently I'm not the best about remembering to take off the lens cap when shooting with my Holga.  Here are the few photos that came from the roll of Kodak Tri-X 400.  And I'm thinking the 400 was a tad too slow for the Holga's fixed shutter speed.

So bummed these aren't sharp, C'est la vie.

A little gem from Paris...

While Andrea and I were in Paris last summer we went to a flea market.  While there I haggled for some old negatives which looked to be from the 40's and 50's.  I also picked up some crazy awesome photographs and an old camera as well.  Here this past week I sent off a roll of film that I took while in Paris and one of the negatives - to Richard Photo Lab in Hollywood.  The photos from that roll of Kodak Tri-X will be here later in the week.  But while I wait here is an image that was scanned by the folks at Richard.  It is from one of the many negatives that I bought.

Remembering Boston

In May of 2010 I took a spontaneous day trip to Boston.  In a mere 12 hours on the ground I fell in love with the city.  Today my heart breaks for those affected by the cowardly act(s) of terrorism.

Manitou Springs Colorado Engagement Session - Devon & Brent

I almost typed "the weather is warming up" but in true Colorado fashion there's a blizzard outside.  But what's true is that wedding season is just around the corner.  My friends Devon and Brent got engaged just before Christmas and are madly in love.  They asked me to do an engagement session for them this past weekend at their first date spot, the totally rad Penny Arcade in Manitou Springs Colorado.  This place has games from the turn of the century and I don't mean this century.

This is the first blog post since my business slogan and website became "Capture Your Adventure", thank's Dev and Brent for letting me Capture Your Adventure!

Favorite Canon G12 Photos of 2012

A couple years ago I bought the newly released Canon G12 so I'd have a backup camera, and something compact to easily take on trips.  While most would take it for a "point and shoot", it does have many manual functions, plus the vital ability to shoot in the RAW format.  I have been extremely impressed with it.  And she has provided me with some incredible photos from California to Colorado to Barcelona to Rome to Paris.  Here are my favorite G12 images from 2012.
